U.S.%20State%20Flag%20Nebraska.jpgIn David City, Nebraska, a family and community are mourning the loss of an 11 year old boy who died playing a game that is played by children. It is no ordinary game as it can be deadly or cause serious injuries including brain injuries. The “Choking Game” or “Fainting Game” involves the use of a belt or other item for strangulation or a form of hyperventilation. Whatever the mechanism – the goal of the “game” is to get a type of high from cerebral hypoxia which means an oxygen deprivation of the brain. It is a dangerous practice that can and does lead to deadly consequences. There is a website dedicated to discouraging or eliminating this deadly game titled GASP (Games Adolescents Shouldn’t Play).

In Wisconsin and other states, texting while driving is a very dangerous activity that can lead to serious automobile accidents and personal injuries. In New York and other States, bus drivers, day care providers, and child care workers continue to forget children on school buses and school vans. What would appear to be a simple task of having every child exit the bus still cannot be completed by some people. A simple checklist or policy and procedure would prevent the problem of leaving a child unattended on school bus. In Brooklyn, New York, it was reported that a school bus driver and a matron left a 2 year old child on a school bus. A bystander noticed the child crying and located a nearby school security agent. Fortunately, after being evaluated at a local hospital, the child did not appear to suffer any serious personal injuries.
