In New Jersey, an elementary school cafeteria worker and playground monitor resigned from her position after there was an uproar in the community about her prior career choices which included being a porn star. The cafeteria worker was formerly known as Crystal Guns, an adult entertainer who has been quite popular on the Internet. She was better known for her porn appearances rather than her serving up of meat loaf in the New Jersey School System. Some parents and concerned citizens raised issues about her working in the school system.

262336_school_bus_toy.jpgPolice in Richmond, Wisconsin reported that a school bus driver was arrested for intoxication. The school bus driver was transporting 43 children at the time of the incident. In Wisconsin, the legal limit of intoxication for commercial drivers is .04. Fortunately, no children were injured as a result of the bus driver’s drinking. It is quite unsettling to read about such a story. The school district rightfully suspended the driver. It is difficult enough to drive a school bus. No school bus driver should ever get behind the wheel while under the influence of any amount of alcohol. It puts our children at undue risk for personal injuries and even death.

The Georgetown Public School System in Massachussetts is considering giving students instruction in dealing with gunmen on school grounds. It is part of the “Code Blue” safety program. The instruction would include telling children to use backpacks or textbooks to try to fend off the gunman. A school resource police officer suggested the program in Georgetown, Massachusetts after hearing of a similar program being offered in the State of Florida. The instruction may need to be judged on results. If a child dies as a result of taking some kind of initiative or action as instructed, then many will say it was a bad idea. If a child is saved with such intervention, the school district and officer may be then seen as innovative heroes. wood%20blocks.jpgEdel Sum, the owner / operator of a Round Rock, Texas day care center in her home, was arrested for child endangerment. Apparently, Ms. Sum left her home and 4 children under the age of 2. The children were left in the home alone with absolutely no parental supervision While she was out, she was involved in an automobile accident. She then informed the police officer that she needed to go home in order to take care of the children. A neighbor was able to get into the home to find the children in their play pens.

655092_football_5.jpgHazing is still a serious problem in Florida and the rest of the United States. Clubs, fraternities, gangs, and sports camps all carry with them the danger of hazing. What is hazing? I guess this all depends who you ask. If you ask the hazing victim, hazing involves humiliation, degrading acts, psychological warfare, and physical abuse. If you ask the hazing criminal defendant, hazing is harmless fun that everyone had to go through in order to become part of the club, gang, or program. Like anything else, tradition is no excuse whatsoever for abusing another person. This especially applies to children.

Three bus loads of middle school students in Litchfield, Connecticut were recently in a bus accident. The students were returning home from a field trip at White Memorial Conservation Park when a chain type of reaction crash took place. The last bus in the convoy failed to stop and crashed into the bus stopped in front of it. Nineteen students were treated for injuries but it does not appear that there are any serious personal injuries at this time. While traveling a convoy increased the visibility of the school buses, this mode of travel can also involve many of the students on multiple buses when an accident takes place. Parents were notified of the crash. While the crash was reported in various news papers and media outlets, the crash fortunately did not involve any deaths or tragedies to speak of. The crash does illustrate the importance of school driver safety, attention, and speed. Rear end automobile accidents, trucking accidents, and bus accidents typically result from inattention and excessive speed. It is especially important for school bus drivers to proceed with caution, care, and the utmost consideration of the health, safety, and welfare of the students on the bus. The school district is currently consulting national AIDS organizers to try to minimize the scare and rumors associated with such a situation. In addition, it is vital that parents, AIDS activist, teachers, and students minimize activities that may increase the spread of the AIDS virus.
