Country%20Flag%20Switzerland.jpgRoman Polanski is a famous and talented director who has been honored with awards. He is also a man who has been on the run from the law / authorities in California for over 30 years. Rather than serve a prison term that he faced for crimes committed in California, Roman Polanski fled to Europe. On a recent visit to a Switzerland film festival, Mr. Polanski was arrested and now faces extradition to the United States. Through the years, Mr. Polanski has benefited from his fame and skills as a movie director. These attributes are not defenses to the crime committed. Like anyone else, Mr. Polanski should be extradicted to the United States to face the punishment and criminal sentence for crimes that he has admitted to. Mr Polanski pled guilty to having sexual intercourse with a 13 year old girl. Many child advocates would refer to these acts as child rape rather than sexual intercourse. Whatever terminology is used – a crime is a crime and Mr. Polanski should be punished for these crimes. Of course, Mr. Polanski will be entitled to an attorney to represent him in this matter. US%20State%20Flag%20Maine.jpgIn Maine and other States, working parents trust that the owners and staff of day care centers are trustworthy people who will protect their children during the working day. While most day care owners and employees are trustworthy, others are not. Some day care owners have been arrested for abuse and neglect. Some have even been arrested for the possession of child pornography. It is quite disturbing that a day care owner would possess such obscene materials. It makes one question what activities went on at the day care center itself. In Cumberland County, Maine, a grand jury recently returned an indictment against a day care owner on charges of possession of child pornography. Ronald Meserve, age 53, was indicated on four counts of possession of sexually explicit materials. Mr. Meserve was arrested in the Spring of 2009. Mr. Meserve co-owns Teddy Bear Day Care Center with his wife.

Construction%20home%20repairs%20hammer%20and%20nails.jpg

In Utah and other States, homeowners take on home construction projects every day. Some homeowners are very handy and able to perform the work necessary to repair homes and even add additions to the home. It is important to know how to do the work and also follow strict safety precautions when performing the work. In Murray, Utah, a roof under construction collapsed on the homeowner and a child according to local firefighters. It was reported that the trusses were set up without proper bracing. Numerous sheets of plywood were stacked on the roof. The weight shifted on the roof which, in turn, led to the collapse of the roof on top of 6 people who were eating lunch underneath. Medical care was required for a man and a boy. While there were no critical injuries reported, this incident could have lead to serious injuries and even deaths to those in or near the home. Safety precautions are vital when performing home improvement projects. In many cases, it makes more sense from a safety standpoint to hire a certified contractor to oversee the work so that incidents like this roof collapse do not happen. US%20State%20Flag%20Illinois.jpg

In Illinois and other States, it is vital that day care owners provide for the safety and well being of the children. Day care centers have a duty to remove hazards from the facility. In Chicago, a day care center was recently shut down. Police officials determined that the day care center was a site for dog fighting. Obviously, the day care operators or employees put profit and sport over any concerns for the safety of the children in the day care center. It is truly amazing and frightening that people would conduct a dog fighting ring / operation in the same location as a day care center. Investigators, who raided the location of the day care center, found battered, injured, and malnourished dogs as well as blood stains on the carpet right near where children were being cared for. At the time of the raid, there were 10 children in the day care center. A spokesman, with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, reported that the day care center was shut down.
